From a Jersey Surf press release: The Jersey Surf is pleased to announce that it will pay tribute to the legendary Bayonne Bridgemen and its alumni at the Surf-sponsored "Summer Classic," to be held on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. in New Brunswick, N.J.,'s Memorial Stadium on Joyce Kilmer Avenue. The show features the Jersey Surf, along with the Blue Stars, Capital Sound, Yamato, Fever, Revolution and several others. The honor guard of the Bridgemen Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps will present the national colors at the start of the show. "The entertainment value of the Bridgemen corps was an inspiration to many of us involved in creating The Jersey Surf," said Surf executive director Bob Jacobs. "Their unique style and incredible showmanship is still remembered today, some 18 years after their last competitive performance. With their reestablishment as an alumni corps last year, we can think of no better way to celebrate their return to the drum and bugle corps activity than to invite them to join us to watch an evening of exciting competition as our guests at the Summer Classic in New Brunswick." George Lavelle, executive director of the Bridgemen alumni, commented, "We are truly honored that the Jersey Surf organization would be interested in inviting us to join them for their prestigious event. We are extremely proud of our heritage in the drum and bugle corps activity and we are hopeful that a new generation of participants in this incredible artform will become exposed to our legacy of innovation and performance excellence. We hope to continue to grow our relationship with The Jersey Surf for years to come." Tickets for the Jersey Surf Summer Classic competition are now on sale and are available by visiting the Jersey Surf web site at http://www.jerseysurf.org or by calling 856.753.drum .
