Lauren McCawley
Lauren McCawley will serve as Southwind's drum major for the 2004 season. "Lauren stood out among a field of several outstanding candidates," said Southwind director Mike Loeffelholz.^McCawley has been a member of Southwind since 2001, having performed in the front ensemble in 2001, the cymbal line in 2002, and again with the front ensemble in 2003. She will age out this-coming summer. McCawley's marching experience began in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with the award-winning Oakland Band. She was the percussion section leader and a member of the winter drum line, and she received the John Phillip Sousa award during her senior year. McCawley also attended the Tennessee Governor's School for the arts and performed with the Tennessee Mid-State and All-State bands. Currently, McCawley is a junior at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., studying telecommunications (major) and music (minor). At Pepperdine, McCawley performs with the wind ensemble, chamber ensemble, percussion ensemble, pit orchestra and community symphony. When not working a TV station in Malibu, Lauren is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma women's fraternity and a Pepperdine cheerleader. "We are very excited to have Lauren lead our corps on the field for the 2004 season," said Southwind director Mike Loeffelholz. "Lauren has a very professional approach to the position that will serve Southwind well. Our only regret is that she will be able to serve in that position for just one season."
