From a Memphis Sound press release:
Due to increased interest among music students from central and northern Alabama, Memphis Sound has scheduled a second audition date on Dec. 4, 2004 at the University of North Alabama in Florence. The audition will not be a full weekend camp. Instead, auditions will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. Individual auditions as well as ensemble rehearsals and marching fundamentals will be conducted for brass, percussion and guard.
According to corps director Trey Moore, Memphis Sound has been slowly cultivating the Alabama territory. “There’s only so many spots available at Spirit each year, yet there are many talented youth in the state of Alabama who would love to march if given the opportunity. We want to make drum corps accessible to them.”
Memphis Sound has a member of its board who lives near Birmingham and has cultivated Alabama students by recruiting at state band competitions. Several 2005 staff members also live in Alabama, including Bobby Patrick, the corps’ visual director.
Memphis Sound’s primary audition weekend will be Nov. 26-27 at the University of Memphis. The weekend will kick off with the corps’ annual banquet to be held in downtown Memphis. Full membership and audition details can be found on the corps’ Web site.
