From a Spirit press release: Randy Nelson has been named Spirit's director of artistic operations/staff coordinator for the 2006 season

Nelson is currently director of bands at Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. During his tenure at Choctawhatchee, his concert, marching and jazz bands have received numerous awards.

His bands have performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Rose Bowl Parade, the Orange Bowl Parade, the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade, the Fiesta Bowl Parade and Tournament of Bands. They are consistent finalists at Bands of America Regional Championships.

The symphonic band has performed on two occasions at Carnegie Hall. The Winter Guards have been World Class Finalist for 18 consecutive years at the Winter Guard International World Championships. The Winter Percussion Ensemble was the 2002 Open Class World Champions and the 2003 World Class Bronze Medalist.

Nelson has served as an adjudicator for Drum Corps International, Bands of America, National Pageant of Bands, Western States Marching Band Association and numerous state and regional associations. He is currently serving as president of the board of directors for Winter Guard International. His design and teaching experience includes the Spirit of Atlanta, the Cavaliers and numerous high school bands and color guards throughout the United States.
