Twenty-year-old Mark Parrett and 17-year-old sister Julie, spent this summer as members of Teal Sound. DCI.org's Christina Mavroudis-Dempsey talked with this duo on Aug. 8, at the Division II & III Prelims at the World Championships in Madison, Wis.
"I actually started out on clarinet when I was in middle school and just seeing Mark drum and how much he loved it, I wanted to give it a shot," said Julie. When taking up percussion seriously in high school, Mark was Julie's drum instructor in the marching band. This summer in Julie's first year and Mark's third at Teal Sound, brother and sister played in the same snare line for the 2006 season. Listen to the audio interview.
