From a Phantom Regiment press release: The Phantom Regiment is pleased to announce that professional tubists Sam Pilafian and Patrick Sheridan will be consultants on the 2003 instructional staff. Pilafian and Sheridan have authored a new method on breathing pedagogy entitled "The Breathing Gym," and will help integrate it into the Phantom Regiment's brass technique program. They are scheduled to be in Rockford during the corps' spring training rehearsals. In addition, Sheridan will be the emcee for a clinic conducted by the Phantom Regiment during a stop in Phoenix. "This is an exciting time for our students, as Pat and Sam are the two foremost tuba soloists in the world as well as being teachers and all-around great guys," said J.D. Shaw, brass arranger and caption head for the Phantom Regiment. Shaw is the French hornist for Boston Brass. Pilafian is perhaps best known as the founding tubist of the internationally renowned Empire Brass Quintet.
