From a Boston Crusaders press release: Entering into their 65th anniversary, the Boston Crusaders have some exciting plans underway for the 2005 season. Adding to the anticipation is the return of Tom Santino and the addition of Christopher Allen to head up the brass program. Tom Santino is no stranger to the Boston Crusaders. After marching with the Florida Wave, Suncoast Sound, and the Concord Blue Devils, Santino was on the brass staff with the Magic of Orlando in 1990 and the Blue Devils from 1994-1996. He first joined the staff as brass caption head for the 1998 season and was instrumental in the arrival of the corps as a DCI World Championship Finalist in 1999. Santino held that position through the 2001 season, and after helping the Magic of Orlando win the 2002 DCI Division 2 title and achieve DCI Finalist status in 2002 and 2003, he returned to the Boston Crusaders brass staff in 2004. This year Santino will be returning to the caption head position, sharing the duties with Christopher Allen. Santino received his bachelor's degree in music education from the University of South Florida and his master's degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Santino began his teaching career as the founding director of bands at G. Holmes Braddock Sr. High School in Miami in the fall of 1990. Santino directed the marching band, concert bands, jazz bands and winter guards at Braddock from 1990 through 1997. In the fall of 1997, Tom became the director of bands at Howard Doolin Middle School in Miami during the school's opening year. From 1998 to 2003 Santino directed the musical ensembles at Indian Ridge Middle School in Davie, Fla. During his five years at Indian Ridge, Santino directed the concert and jazz bands, orchestra, and choral groups. Currently, Santino is the Assistant Director of Bands at Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Fla. Christopher Allen has been active in the drum and bugle corps activity for over 10 years. He marched with the Cadets of Bergen County and served as a brass technician and as brass caption head for the Glassmen from 1997 to 2003. Allen received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Horn Performance from the University of South Florida, where he studied with Ralph Froelich, a former member of the New York Wind Quintet. He has also studied with former member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Brass, and founding member of the Empire Brass, David Ohanian, as well as principal horn with the Florida Orchestra, James Wilson. Allen is a member of the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, a seasonal member of the Walt Disney World Orchestra in Orlando, Fla., and is still very active as a free-lance horn player. He has performed with a number of other orchestras and has performed in national tours of musicals such as "Beauty and the Beast," "Guys and Dolls," and "South Pacific." Allen has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Blake Fine Arts High School and is currently teaching elementary music at Robles Elementary Academy in Tampa, Fla.
