The 2014 Drum Corps International Tour officially kicked off on the West Coast on Friday, June 20, when a lineup of 10 World and Open Class corps headed to Clovis, California, for the annual MidCal Champions Showcase. The event included a number of notable firsts, including the first time the Crossmen performed in California since the 2007 DCI World Championships, and the very first competitive performance of the brand new Open Class corps Golden Empire. Blue Devils finished first at the event with a score of 73.20. The Vanguard Cadets took first in the Open Class division, kicking off the season ahead of Blue Devils B for the first time since 2008.
