From a S.O.M.E. press release: The Sponsors of Musical Enrichment (S.O.M.E.) invite all eligible drum corps members to apply for the Jim Ott Scholarship. This $3,000 scholarship, named in honor of Drum Corps International's Hall of Fame member Jim Ott, is available to a drum corps member planning a career in music education. Erika Schafer
Erika marched in the Cadets of Bergen County from 1994-1996. She received her bachelor's degree in music education in 1999 from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, master's degree in trumpet performance in 2001 from Yale University, and has been in the US Navy Band since. While pursuing her doctor of musical arts degree in trumpet performance at the Catholic University of America, Erika is an active freelance musician in the D.C. area, and has performed with the Orchestra of the 17th Century, The McLean Orchestra and the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra.
