Spirit of Atlanta dedicated its performance in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on July 8, to the late Jim Ott, a member of the DCI Hall of Fame whose life was taken well before his time. 34 years ago to that date, Ott was tragically killed in an auto accident while on tour as the brass arranger and instructor for Spirit of Atlanta. During rehearsal on Tuesday, Spirit of Atlanta members played their emotionally-charged arrangement of "Georgia On My Mind" in honor of Ott. And with that short performance that didn't take but a few minutes out of their regular rehearsal schedule, the memory of Jim Ott lives on with a whole new generation of corps members.
