Over the past week, America has been confronted with the horrific deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor and the circumstances which continue to unfold in their wake. At Drum Corps International, we have paused, to be not only poignant, truthful, and sincere in our response, but also to be clear in our purpose.
We stand united with the entire DCI community in the belief that Black Lives Matter. We wish to express our profound sorrow, and say unequivocally, that racism and discrimination in any form, has no place in the world we seek to not only entertain, but to educate as well.
For almost 50 years, DCI has aspired to create a stage for performers from every possible background. This is central to our mission and embedded deeply in our values.
Every person who is a part of the drum corps experience has the potential to contribute to our society through their development as leaders and educators. We acknowledge that there is significant work to be done. It is incumbent upon us to ensure that those who will help to chart our future will hold steadfast to the ideals of creating a world where diversity, equity, and inclusion are no longer merely words, but thoughts translated into actions.
