This photo was taken last summer at the OnQ National Drumming Camp in Yucaipa, Calif., hosted by the Blue Devils. If you think something's askew about the way everyone is holding their sticks, you're right! Blue Devils percussion arranger Scott Johnson had the snare line (as well as former Blue Devil Pete Sapadin and battery instructor Tim Tintari) play one of their warm-ups in a reverse traditional grip for the campers to simulate the initial awkwardness that drummers experience when learning a new way to hold their sticks.
