Chris Martin
Chris Martin, recently appointed principal trumpet player for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, is proud of his drum corps background (he marched with Spirit in 1993). In this interview excerpt, he describes the differences between playing with a drum corps and playing with the CSO, and tells us what his CSO colleagues think of his DCI past. "It's really not that different," Martin says of the endurance level required by both a drum corps and the CSO. "You have to have all of your energy to put on a show in drum corps, and being a professional musician is very similar." Martin sat down with us recently at Chicago's Symphony Center for a long video discussion, his first major interview with any news outlet since taking the job.
