This week, we'll be focusing some editorial firepower on anecdotes and stories related to guards. Think back to those formative, funny, inspiring or memorable drum major and send them in! They can be as long or as short as you would like. Attach a picture of yourself or the situation you're writing about if you can. And by all means, pass this on to your friends! We'll edit these stories for clarity, grammar and appropriateness. If you have a drum major-related anecdote or story, send it to content@dci.org. By Rob Stein

Last year we were in Florida for the Teal Sound home show, this was shortly before championships. The judges were tabulating the scores, so all of the drum majors were by the gate waiting to march on the field. A few minutes before we were called on, I felt a tug on my uniform. I looked down and it was a little boy, about 7 years old, totally decked out in Surf apparel. He was too nervous to talk, so his parents asked if I would sign his Surf T-shirt. So I kneeled down and signed it, and right before I got up, he asked, "Excuse me, but do you guys do birthday parties?" I told him if his backyard was big enough we would be there!
