From a Carolina Crown press release: Brian Tinkel has been named Carolina Crown's percussion arranger/caption director for 2005 and beyond.

"It became very obvious during talks with Brian that his appointment fits right in with the future of the Crown organization. Brian's vast experience, knowledge and education in the percussion area brings a fresh new sense of aggression, intensity and vigor to this already exciting section of the corps," the press release noted.

Currently, Tinkel is the director of percussion studies at Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, N.C., and is completing his doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Oklahoma. He holds a degree in hotel, restaurant and travel administration, a degree in music performance and an master's in percussion performance, which he received from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where he studied with Thom Hannum, Eduardo Leandro and Dr. Peter Tanner.

While being involved with drum corps for over 15 years, his performance opportunities lead him to being a member of the Boston Crusaders and Star of Indiana. He went on to perform with the Star of Indiana's Brass Theater production, where he toured with the Canadian Brass and Nexus. Since devoting his time to teaching, Brian has been on faculty with the Crossmen and the Glassmen, and has coordinated percussion activities with Magic of Orlando and the Madison Scouts. He is an active clinician, performer and arranger, and is sponsored by Innovative Percussion, Inc.
