Field Pass host Dan Potter headed West on March 30 visiting with more than 400 corps members and alums, family and friends of the Santa Clara Vanguard during the organization's annual birthday dinner.

With volunteers slaving over vats of spaghetti sauce made with a recipe originally crafted by Vanguard founder, the late Gail Royer, Potter gets his fill as he delves into details about the corps' 2008 program "3three" with brass arranger Key Poulan.

Vanguard drum majors Travis Roach and Stephanie Lee also talk about the upcoming season before dishing out an audible birthday desert for the audience by conducting the corps in a standstill preview performance of the group's 2008 opener called "Mind."
