Saluting our servicemen and women on Veterans Day

What happens in Vegas …

happens in Vegas ...

In Brasso Continuo we’ll explore the traditions, rituals, stories and folklore surrounding the drum corps activity. If you know of a ritual, bit of folklore or tradition associated with a corps, e-mail the details to [email protected].

If you have a picture of that particular ritual or tradition, e-mail that as well. Thanks!Tim Hooper , 18, of Valrico, Fla., played euphonium for the Phantom Regiment this past summer.

He sent in this tale. Remember, this is not part of the normal everyday drum corps experience — but like that time-honored “wandering around and finding the unexpected” plot line of a Wednesday night sitcom, it happened, and it’s amusing. “This picture is from tour this summer when we stopped in Las Vegas for a day. The show was cancelled, and because of lack of housing, both us (Phantom Regiment) and the Santa Clara Vanguard got put up in the Flamingo Hilton, right there on the strip.

“Upon our arrival and some exploration of the hotel, we discovered to our delight that there was a photo shoot for the Hooters calender going on in the tropical garden/pool area. “My friend and I came upon this model as we were walking down one of the paths, and we asked if we could get our pictures taken with her. She was very nice and more than happy to oblige. It was quite the thrill and a highlight of our day in Vegas!”
