From a Glassmen press release: Kristen Whiting and Tim Newburn, who both started instructing the Glassmen guard in 2002, will return there as instructors in 2004. Whiting is currently enrolled in the prestigious Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in New York City. Whiting originally joined the Glassmen staff in 2002 after her long run as an original member of the cast of "Blast!" This will be her second year designing and instructing for the corps. Tim Newburn, who is returning as guard caption head, has served with several winter guard programs throughout the years, including Adagio
Winter guard and Black Gold. He also spent several years instructing for both the Bluecoats and Phantom Regiment. Newburn is currently the director of color guards for Langham Creek and Cypress Springs High Schools in Houston. Other staff members returning to the Glassmen are Daniel Riley (a former member of "Blast!," the color guard Director of Northmonth High School in Ohio, and a designer for Alliance of Miami), along with Katie Williamson and Jodi Ames (both previous staff members of the Owasso and Black Gold guard programs). Roman Montoya, who taught with the Glassmen in 2000, will return this year. New to the staff in 2004 will be Michael Gobiel, a former "Blast!" member and long-time instructional veteran of several corps. "[The staff members] are a very talented lot," said Newburn. "Some old
friends are returning to the crew, along with some I've been waiting to work with. Like most summers, this one is already shaping up to be quite an adventure!" Auditions for the Glassmen begin Thanksgiving weekend -- please visit glassmen.org for more details.
