Your Students are Invited to be a Part of These Outstanding Honor Bands!

Spots are still available for the BANDtastic Georgia and BANDtastic Texas Honor Bands for 2016! In order to allow for maximum participation, the nomination deadline has been extended until May 1. Band selection will be posted after this date and accepted students will be notified via email. Through collaboration with each state’s music education and arts organizations with the Drum Corps International Tour as a backdrop, the BANDtastic TexasBANDtastic Georgia and INpact Indiana’s Future-Band initiatives will engage young minds and inspire young hearts. Participation in this program will motivate middle school students to consider the arts as they make important skills development decisions for their high school years and beyond, and impact lifelong arts behaviors.

Drum Corps International will collaborate with other arts organizations in creating exciting educational and performance opportunities to middle school students from across the states of Texas, Georgia and Indiana. Students who particiapte in the BANDtastic TX, BANDtastic GA or the INpact Indiana’s Future-Band will enjoy the following opportunities:

  • Perform as part of the “biggest middle school bands ever” in front of expected audiences of more than 12,000 spectators at large-scale, experience-of-a-lifetime DCI Tour events.
    • DCI will work with the State School Music Education Associations and State Bandmasters Associations to create these ensembles.
    • Middle school band directors have been asked to nominate students to participate in this initiative.
    • Honorary band directors will be selected through state association committees. The ratio of music educators-to-student will not exceed 1:20.
    • DCI will select and screen an additional set of adult supervisors to ensure an adult-to-student ratio does not exceed 1:10.
  • Participate in a Kick It In! leadership session with industry renowned motivational speaker Fran Kick that is specifically designed to inspire and excite the minds of the middle school students.
  • Take part in additional structured educational activities with professional artists which promise to be packed full of performances and speakers who will engage young audiences on future opportunities in the performing arts.
  • Some meals will be provided.
  • The opportunity to observe performances of the “best-of-the-best” marching music ensembles.
  • Tickets to the corresponding Drum Corps International Tour event (seating in premium areas if registered by deadline).
  • Family and Friends wishing to attend the performances and watch the DCI event with their student, may purchase a special “Friends & Family Package.”

The following is an overview of a typical schedule. Additional details and a specific timeline will be given to participating students and families as venues, transitions and activities are finalized.

  • Registration and parent welcome/Q&A
  • Students/directors rehearsal while parents are invited to band parent educational session
  • Students/families/directors all invited to attend Kick It In! student leadership session
  • Families enjoy show or other local activities during other rehearsals
  • Students/directors observe some of the very best drum corps preparing for completion
  • Students have interaction/Q&A time with professional musicians and mentors
  • Students perform in front of a large-scale DCI Tour event audience

Registration will open in late April for all BANDtastic and INpact members, family and friends. There will be an early-bird discount through May 15. Please refer back to your band director for confirmation of selection and information on how to register.

Registration costs for students selected to be a part of the ensemble will include a $95 application fee. Family and friends may purchase additional packages for a fee of $75 each. Included in all packages:

  • Entry to activity-specific sessions (Family and friends exception: some rehearsals in backstage areas.)
  • Meals (Included meals and schedule will be included as part of registration materials)
  • Tickets
    • Educational workshop with renowned motivational speaker Fran Kick of Kick it In! and a session featuring various local and national artists
    • Tickets to corresponding DCI Tour event to watch the very best drum corps perform
  • Commemorative T-shirt
  • Other surprises (As available from Drum Corps International sponsors and partners)

Additional Information

Parents, please note that students will be released after activities back into parental custody (or to another adult authority if specified by the legal guardian). A valid driver’s license or ID is required and must match parental permission documents. If required, Drum Corps International will supply a list of convenient overnight accommodations. You will be requested to supply your plan for transportation and housing upon registration.
