Drum Corps International is now accepting applications for the 2026 IN STEP Fellowship.
The annual program offers an all-access pass for future music educators and early-career band directors looking to see how the world’s greatest marching music ensembles operate, and give selected applicants the opportunity to experience the administrative and educational machinery fundamental to the DCI Tour.
We are looking for the next generation of leaders from all backgrounds to join us behind the scenes early this summer, and learn what it takes to operate a world-class ensemble.
The experience
Spend at least one week of “spring training” embedded with a World Class corps. Much more than just watching from the sidelines, you’ll work alongside the directors and administrators who make the magic happen.
- Master class in logistics: Experience how a 165-person ensemble gets ready to move, eat, and sleep across the country.
- Leadership pedagogy: Observe how world-class staff manage student culture and rehearsals.
- Direct mentorship: Build a network of professional contacts that will serve you for the rest of your teaching career.
The perks
- $1,000 award: A stipend to help cover your travel and expenses.
- Resumé builder: Add a prestigious fellowship with a DCI organization to your professional portfolio.
- Expand your network: Join a community of IN STEP alumni who are currently leading successful band programs and ensembles nationwide.
Who we’re looking for
- Current music education majors (junior/senior undergrads or masters students) and early career (years 1-5) band directors.
- Motivated leaders who may not have had the opportunity to work with a World Class drum corps in the past.
- Prospective and current early-career music educators from all backgrounds with the passion to lead the future of marching arts.

The deadline for consideration is March 31, 2026.
