5k run/walk will kick off morning of DCI World Championship Finals

by Drum Corps International

Inspire Arts & Music in partnership with Drum Corps International is proud to announce Street Beat 5k, a run/walk event taking place as part of the 2014 DCI World Championship festivities this August in Indianapolis! Runners and walkers are invited to take part in the event the morning of Saturday, Aug. 9. The site will be the Canal Walk in downtown Indy, with a start time of 7:30 a.m., giving participants the opportunity to run or walk and then enjoy DrumLine Battle and SoundSport activities that afternoon and then the season-ending DCI Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium that evening. Participants will be able to choose which drum corps or local marching band they'd like to support when registering, with 50 percent of the proceeds from designated registrations going directly to their selected organization. Runners have already signed up to support the Blue Stars, Boston Crusaders, Carolina Crown, Phantom Regiment, Jersey Surf and Troopers!

The Central Canal runs through downtown's White River State Park and is a popular place for fun and fitness.
"We are very excited to bring this first-time 5k to Finals morning in Indianapolis," said Whitney Medworth, Director of Events and Outreach for Inspire Arts & Music. "The best part is that you can run and know your registration fee goes directly to the drum corps or music organization of your choice." In addition to any drum corps, participants can also designate a local marching band or other music groups to benefit. If you are part of an organization or know of an organization to be added to the registration, please contact the Inspire Arts & Music office by e-mail at streetbeat5k@iaminspired.org.
