An additional percussion ensemble judge will evaluate corps at major shows in 2004, according to a resolution passed today by the DCI board of directors. Judge administrator John Phillips said that the resolution was an important one. "This marks an important development in the educational process for DCI. It gives percussion students the opportunity to get more specific input and recognition of their achievement. It is the result of a lot of hard work on the part of instructors and the percussion community. The majority vote indicates that its time had come," Phillips said. The motion, passed 14-6, was opposed by Matt Krum (Troopers), Mike Loeffelholz (Southwind), Rick Valenzuela (Santa Clara Vanguard), Pat Seidling (Phantom Regiment), Sal Leone (Seattle Cascades) and at-large director Mike Kehoss. DCI percussion judge Glenn Fuggett explains the rule (MP3). Read more about the proposals.
