The Academy The Academy is selling its color guard uniforms from its 2010 production "Strangers in Paradise." Costumes include "The Warrior," "Whirling Dervish" and "Harem." Band directors and color guard designers can contact the corps for pricing, sizes and quantities available.
Blue Knights Blue Knights is seeking volunteers to help run its weekly bingo sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Proceeds from the corps' bingo operation account for almost 40 percent of the organization's annual budget.
Bluecoats Bluecoats has its 2011 design team in place as those individuals gear up for their first face-to-face program meeting in the next few weeks. Returning staffers include Program coordinator Michael Gray, color guard designer Andy Mroczek, percussion arranger Tom Rarick, brass arranger Doug Thrower (who will be returning for his 20th year with the corps), and visual designer Tim Fairbanks, among others.
Boston Crusaders The Boston Crusaders have announced their key returning and new staff members for the 2011 season. Among the newest appointments are former Cavaliers director Bruno Zuccala who will take on a leadership role dealing with corps programming, performance and everyday operations, Chad Pence who will serve as brass caption head, and Ellis Hampton who will serve as percussion caption head and designer. "With our new additions, we feel like we have achieved a great blend of consistency and progress; familiarity with our organization as well as outside perspective, which is invaluable in our quest for constant improvement" said Executive Director Tom Spataro.
The Cadets The Cadets are calling on all alums to send in their latest news and announcements for the 2010 issue of the Cadets Alumni Association newsletter.
Carolina Crown Carolina Crown is giving away a limited number of free T-shirts to fans who register for the corps' mailing list.
The Cavaliers The Cavaliers posted the dates and locations of its 2011 clinic/audition weekends which this year will take place in November in Rosemont, Ill., and in December in Austin, Texas. Students interested in joining the corps are only expected to attend one of those auditions.
City Sound City Sound will begin rehearsals for its Brass Choir in September. The offshoot performance ensemble of the drum corps is open to brass musicians of all ability levels between 13 and 21 years of age. Rehearsals take place on Sundays in Bell Gardens, Calif.
Forte 2011 audition information packets for Forte will be available starting in October. Those interested in joining the Grand Prairie, Texas corps can register on the corps' website.
Impulse Impulse posted a schedule of its 2011 audition dates. It all gets started in November and December with an open house and workshops hosted to prepare prospective members for the auditions which will take place in January.
Madison Scouts The Madison Scouts' main audition camp will take place Nov. 19-21 at their winter rehearsal facility in Bloomington, Ind. Those interested in auditioning can register online.
Pacific Crest Pacific Crest has several audition and "experience" camps scheduled for the second and third weeks of December in Diamond Bar, Calif.
Phantom Regiment You can now register for Phantom Regiment's audition camps which will kick off on Friday, Nov. 26 in Rockford, Ill. for brass and conductors.
Pioneer Pioneer profiles each of its age-out members on the corps' website. Director Roman Blenski wrote, "These nine people have contributed a lot of time, maturity, and leadership to the 2010 Pioneer … If any of these special people did a lot for you or did you a special favor, please send them a special note of thanks now."
Platinum Platinum launched a new equipment fundraising campaign to purchase a brand new set of Kanstul G Bugles for the 2012 season. In what the corps calls a "transition back to the more 'grass roots' movement of drum corps," the use of traditional G-keyed bugles has faded since corps have adopted more widely used B-flat instruments. "This is a bold move for any corps in the junior activity to make, but we are confident that this will fit the mold of what we want Platinum to be known as, and that is a strong, powerful, and entertaining ensemble," said Executive Director Steve McKeiver.
Raiders The Raiders are currently accepting resumes from individuals interested in joining the corps' educational staff for the 2011 season. Caption head positions are open in the percussion, color guard and visual sections, with additional staff members needed for every section. "We've had great success over the past 10 years within DCI. Winning a divisional World Championship, along with silver and bronze medals has been fantastic. Making finals for 10 years straight shows we have a solid foundation in place, now we want to take the next step," said Director Tom Maiello.
Santa Clara Vanguard Santa Clara and the Blue Devils will team up on Saturday, Sept. 11 for their annual Fleet Clean Up Day. Volunteers will gather beginning at 8 a.m. at the SCV corps hall in Santa Clara, Calif. with the goal of cleaning both corps' sets of buses inside and out.
Teal Sound Newly inducted DCI Hall of Fame member Robert W. Smith will join Teal Sound in 2011 as a program consultant. "This is a great move for the corps as we continue to build for the future here at Teal," said Director Randy Blackburn. "Having someone with Robert's talents and being able to work with him again at this level is something I am very excited about as I am sure that all of the Teal Family will be too!"
Troopers Those interested in auditioning for the 2011 Troopers can fill out a membership interest form on the corps' website. The first audition weekend on the schedule is Dec. 10-12 in Cheyenne, Wyo.
