The Academy Save the date for the Academy's ninth annual benefit dinner at the Tempe Center for the Arts on Friday, March 19. The event will feature food, a silent auction, a special performance by the corps, and keynote speaker Dick Stemple from the Fiesta Bowl.
Blue Devils Today, the Blue Devils launched the latest component of their System Blue inititative, "a mixture of products, educational live events and publishing designed to provide a 'System of Excellence' for band directors, teachers, staff, designers, performers and marching members." In conjunction with that release is a brand new online marketplace at Featuring the latest Blue Devils merchandise, the site also gives you one-stop-shopping for all of the System Blue products, events and publications, as well as the new I Luv Band store which is focused specifically on marching bands.
Boston Crusaders Following up on the rules proposal vote at the 2010 DCI Annual Meeting, the Boston Crusaders have compiled their organizational insights and viewpoints on each of the rules that were discussed last weekend in Indianapolis.
The Cadets The Cadets will gather in Woodstown, N.J. this weekend for their monthly rehearsal camp. With the goal of working on three additional minutes of music for their 2010 competitive program, the group will have nearly seven minutes of repertoire learned by Sunday.
Cascades The Cascades recently wrapped up a successful January rehearsal camp. "The energy from the members has been unbelievably positive. We as staff are so excited about the experience the students are having," said visual caption head John Freeman.
Glassmen Members of the Glassmen brass section will meet in Cincinnati this weekend to perform as part of an educational clinic at the Ohio Music Education Association's Professional Development Conference.
Mandarins The Mandarins will be led this season by newly appointed drum majors Chris Honda and Boyce Jeffries. Honda, a third-year member, spent the last two seasons as part of the corps' euphonium section. Jeffries is a first-year member.
Music City Music City reports "smiles and tapping toes aplenty" at the corps' rehearsal camp held January 23-24 in Franklin, Tenn. Members will be back action March 13-14 for their next rehearsal.
Pacific Crest Pacific Crest is experiencing some growing pains with its current equipment trailer and is launching a fundraising campaign to replace the 20-year-old 45-foot trailer with a new 53-foot model.
Spirit Spirit will present an educational clinic this weekend at the 2010 Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Savannah. The corps' director of education and programming Mark Waymire, will lead a team of clinicians including Todd Snead, Andy Putnam and DCI Hall of Fame member Freddy Martin.
