by Drum Corps International

From a WGI press release Longtime Drum Corps International judge, DCI Hall of Famer and educational director George Oliviero and Mike and Mark Miller, vice presidents of DCI Corporate Partner Fred J. Miller, Inc., will be inducted into the 2004 WGI Hall of Fame in a ceremony during the WGI World Championships in San Diego the weekend of April 15-17, 2004. George Oliviero has been involved with WGI since its inception. Serving as an equipment judge (on the floor) in 1980, he has judged at every WGI World Championships since. Oliviero has judged all four captions for WGI, and is still currently judging general effect, ensemble analysis and occasionally movement. Oliviero has an unparalleled history of service training judges, and served as an assistant director of education where he helped many people who were entering the WGI judging arena. Oliviero has been extremely active on the WGI task force, serving as a facilitator in movement and ensemble analysis throughout the years. Oliviero has also been instrumental in the development of color guard outside the United States. Since 1995, he has frequently hosted educational seminars for judges, instructors and students in the Netherlands. Oliviero is a mentor to many, a gentleman to all and is always willing to volunteer his time and energy to WGI and excellence in adjudication. Mark and Mike Miller were born into the world of pageantry. Both marched in the Miller's Blackhawks Musical Corps for 10 years, where Mark played trumpet and Mike played drums. They soon became interested in learning how to spin flag and rifle. They mastered their skills and marched with the Miller's Blackhawks Winter Guard from 1978-1985. They continued to teach the Miller's Blackhawks until the Blackhawks organization was retired in 1990. Mark and Mike also instructed the Miamisburg High School Winter Guard from 1980-2002, winning scholastic world gold medals in 1991, 1992 and 1998. They both served on the WGI board of directors for 21 years and served on the WGI task force, where they worked tirelessly to push the boundaries of color guard. They are now devoting all of their time and energy to the family business as vice presidents for Fred J. Miller Inc. Mark and Mike are very proud to be inducted into the WGI Hall of Fame, joining their father, Fred J. Miller. Fred J. Miller, Inc., a Drum Corps International Corporate Partner, also provides support to DCI member corps the Blue Devils, the Cadets, the Cavaliers, Colts, Crossmen, Glassmen, Santa Clara Vanguard and Southwind.
