On behalf of Drum Corps International, we express sympathy for the victims profiled in today’s online article and for anyone who has ever experienced abuse while participating in any marching music performance activity. Any form of abuse is inexcusable. These reports of misconduct only underscore the imperative for all members of the DCI community to continue our efforts to better safeguard all performers, staff, and volunteers in every way possible moving forward.

Work continues to put policies, procedures, and best practices in place to prevent abusive behavior, as shared in a post earlier this week. In addition, the community-wide DCI annual meeting in January will include robust training on hiring practices, education to prevent misconduct, and other related topics.

We applaud the individuals featured in today’s article for their courage and strength in telling their stories and helping to further continued improvements throughout the activity. DCI encourages anyone who feels that they have experienced any form of abuse to come forward in any way they feel comfortable. Individuals who wish to make such reports to DCI may do so through the confidential online reporting system, by emailing ethics@dci.org, or by calling 1.833.556.0385.

DCI remains steadfastly committed to its core values and its mission to provide the positive, life-enriching benefits of marching music performing arts. Abuse or misconduct in any form will not be tolerated.
