Motivational speaker Fran Kick leads a session for music
ed majors at the BOA Grand Nationals in November.
Attention collegiate drum corps fans: If you're majoring in music education at either the undergraduate or graduate level, you can be our guest at the 2010 Drum Corps International World Championship Semifinals! On Friday, Aug. 13, you'll have the special opportunity to spend the day immersed in the drum corps experience, interacting with guest presenters and learning alongside fellow future music educators. The day begins at 9 a.m. with a special educational workshop led by author and motivational speaker Fran Kick. He is the creator and presenter of KICK IT IN, a series of motivational personal leadership presentations he delivers year round to students and other audiences across North America. "Our goal is to reach future music educators with a message and a method that inspires them to professionally pay attention to what's possible," Kick said. "This experience can offer students currently majoring in music education a behind-the-scenes, insiders-look, one-day co-op, real-world glimpse into what marching music ultimately can be." Following the educational session, you'll spend the rest of the day absorbed in the world of drum corps. After lunch and a tour of Lucas Oil Stadium, you'll watch and hear the corps warm up at White River State Park before heading back to the stadium to experience the World Class World Championship Semifinals from a prime location in reserved seating. "These performances and performers represent the best-of-the-best in terms of 'what's possible' when it comes to 'marching music' excellence," Kick said. "The DCI World Championships is truly a celebration and an annual culmination for thousands of performers, teachers, instructors, choreographers and designers." Since space is limited and offered on a first-come first-served basis. An RSVP is required.

This educational workshop is sponsored in part by MENC: The National Association for Music Education, KICK IT IN and Music for All.
