Greene County is among the oldest counties in the United States. The county seat of Greensboro was founded in 1786, a year before the U.S. Constitution was adopted. And Greensboro is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places as a multiple resource area of five historic districts and seven individual sites.

Greene County also is one of the country’s premier golf and lake resort destinations – the home of Lake Oconee. The county’s three major resort communities – Reynolds Plantation, Reynolds Landing and Harbor Club – all have garnered numerous national awards.

The status of the area’s resort reputation is further punctuated by the 251-room lakefront Ritz-Carlton, Reynolds Plantation. The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation received two four-star ratings from the prestigious Mobile Travel Guide, one for the Lodge and for the Spa.

There is also a selection of bed and breakfasts, inns, rental properties (homes and villas) and affordable hotels to be found in Greene County.
