Pioneer appears on Iowa television

Grant Wood All-City

At 7 a.m., on Tuesday, June 20, the director of Grant Wood All-City Drum Corps and chairman of Thursday’s Tournament of Drums, Slayton Thompson, met a small crew from Good Day Iowa at Pioneer Drum and Bugle corps’ housing site, Franklin Middle School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Thompson

Thompson was interviewed, and he in turn asked Pioneer director Roman Blenski some questions. Drum Major Alex Wilga and two corps members, Lizzi Hoover from the color guard and A.J. Villegas, a tuba player, were also on hand to say good morning to the television audience.

The corps

The corps made a total of three appearances during different portions of the broadcast. These included a full corps performance of “Gary Owen” and the closer from this year’s program, “Emeraldscapes.” The corps’ snare drum section also made a special appearance during a second interview with Thompson.
