Will Plenk and Matt Haines, Long Islanders attending Ithaca Collage with similar penchants for Billy Joel and late-1970s/early 1980s arena rock, will lead the Cadets as drum majors next season.
Plenk, a two-year tuba player with the Cadets, is from Lindenhurst, Long Island, N.Y. He is a sophomore at Ithaca College, majoring in music performance. Plenk is a member of Cynical Brass, a brass quintet consisting of five differently aged Ithaca College students that have been together for one year. Plenk enjoys the music of Billy Joel, Journey and several orchestral composers.
Haines has been a baritone player with the Cadets for the past three years. From Holbrook, Long Island, N.Y., Haines is a junior at Ithaca College, majoring in music performance with a minor in management. He is a trombonist and a member of Pinnacle Brass, a brass quintet consisting of five Ithaca college juniors that have been together since their freshmen year. Haines enjoys the music of Billy Joel, Styx and several orchestral composers
Haines will be aging out this year; Plenk has a few years to live the life of the Cadet.
