Rocco Duranti, 21 Bowling Green State University Glassmen Baritone, 2009-2011 What do you think is important in choosing which corps to audition for? Find a corps that not only fits your interests as a performer, but also fits your personality. How do you like to prepare for an audition? Make sure you play your audition music for someone! It's always helpful to get comfortable playing in front of other people before you have to play for the section staff members of the corps you are auditioning for. What was your experience like the first time you auditioned for a corps? My favorite part about auditioning for a drum corps was the experience the corps offered me. Even though it wasn't the summer, it was fun and exciting to be a part of the drum corps experience for a weekend. What advice would you give to somebody who is nervous or unsure about auditioning? Everyone is nervous about the audition camps, even the veteran members! The best thing to do is take a deep breath, meet some new people, and learn everything you can from the staff. Taking a chance and putting yourself out there to audition is the only way to get started in becoming a member of a drum corps. Any other tips? Have fun! There are no other organizations or activities like drum corps in the world, and this will truly be a great experience, regardless of the audition outcome. Make sure you meet people and take in as much information as possible during the audition weekends. Learn more about corps audition dates, locations and additional info.
