As a special to the Washington Post, Edward A. Dalton writes about the positive influence of drum and bugle corps on youth in the Washington area during the 1960s and ’70s. Dalton was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s VIP Drum and Bugle Corps during that period, a group whose members came from the D.C. public schools. Dalton uses his personal example with the VIPs as a plea for the public to take interest in the welfare of youth in the Washington community.
