For only the third time in DCI's history, (in 1992 and 2004), a record nine corps broke 90 points at the World Championship Finals. In winning its first World Class title, Carolina Crown became the only corps to have won DCI World Championship titles in World Class and one of the classes that either merged or transitioned into eventually becoming Open Class, having won the Division II Championship in 1993.
While reading the following, please keep in mind that the scores of the two Effect captions are counted for full value, but each of the scores of the three Visual and three Music captions are first divided in half, with each of those half scores then added for the Total Visual and Total Music scores.
Both Visual Effect and General Effect are worth a maximum of 20 points each. Each of the Visual captions—Visual Proficiency, Visual Analysis and Color Guard)—are worth 10 points each, even though all three at first appear to have a maximum of 20 points. Likewise, each of the Music captions—Brass, Music Analysis and Percussion—are also worth 10 points each, although on the recaps, they too have a maximum of 20.00 points.

Carolina Crown (1st-98.30) picked up just 0.05 from Semifinals to hold off Blue Devils. Music Effect, Visual Analysis, Brass and Music Analysis were all tops in their captions, with Music Effect earning straight firsts in both sub-captions from both judges, (one of them awarded the corps a perfect score), and Brass earning a perfect 20.00. Music Effect, Visual Proficiency and Color Guard placed 2nd, the latter just 0.10 down to BD. Percussion, long the corps' Achilles Heel, placed 6th, 0.90 down to BD and 1.10 down to Cadets. Consequently, despite a 20.00 in Brass and a 19.80 in Music Analysis, the 18.70 in Percussion brought the corps down to 3rd in total Music.
Blue Devils (2nd-98.05) gained 0.45 from Semifinals to close the gap between Crown by 0.40, from 0.65 down to 0.25. Visual Effect, Visual Proficiency and Color Guard all won those captions. Visual Analysis and Percussion took 2nd, and 3rd place finishes went to Music Effect, Brass and Music Analysis.
The Cadets (3rd-96.95) gained 0.10 from Semifinals and won Percussion for the first time since 2005. Music Effect, Brass and Music Analysis placed 2nd. In fact, in the combined Music captions, the corps placed 1st, entirely due to Crown's Percussion score being 1.10 under that of Cadets. Not a single caption placed the same as the corps' final placement. Visual Effect, Visual Proficiency and Visual Analysis finished in 4th, and Color Guard remained in 5th from Semifinals.
Santa Clara Vanguard (4th-96.85) gained 0.35 from Semifinals to almost win a medal, taking 3rd in Visual Effect, all three Visual captions and Percussion. Music Effect, Brass and Music Analysis placed 4th. (In Semifinals, both Visual Proficiency and Visual Analysis placed 2nd.)
Bluecoats (5th-93.35) added 0.30 from the Semifinals score and took 4th in Percussion, 5th in Music Effect, Brass and Music Analysis, and 6th in Visual Effect, Visual Proficiency and Visual Analysis. Color Guard was the corps' lowest caption, in 7th, but one spot up from Semifinals.
Phantom Regiment (6th-93.25) added 0.20 from Semifinals, but slipped one spot from the earlier tie with Bluecoats. Color Guard once again took 4th. Visual Effect, Visual Proficiency and and Visual Analysis finished 5th, and Music Effect, Brass and Music Analysis placed 6th. Percussion ended in 9th, one spot up from Semifinals.
Cavaliers (7th-90.50) dropped 0.75 from Semifinals and placed highest in Visual Effect, finishing 6th. Visual Proficiency and Percussion took 7th, Percussion slipping one spot from Semifinals and two from Prelims. Music Effect and Music Analysis placed 8th, while Visual Analysis, Color Guard and Brass finished in 9th.
Boston Crusaders (8th-90.40) found 0.40 since Semifinals and as a result, passed up Scouts. Color Guard placed 6th, both Analysis captions 7th, Music Effect 9th and the other four captions 8th.
Madison Scouts (9th-90.10) lost the 0.40 that Crusaders found and in the process, switched placements with Boston. Percussion finished 5th, up two spots from Semifinals, but only up one spot from Prelims. Music Effect and Brass took 7th, Visual Analysis 8th, Visual Effect, Visual Proficiency and Music Analysis 9th and Color Guard 10th.
Blue Knights (10th-87.75) remained in 10th place, but fell 1.60 from Semifinals, a score drop greater than the next two largest drops combined. Color Guard was 8th, Visual Effect was 9th, and Music Effect, Visual Proficiency and Music Analysis placed 10th. Visual Analysis was 11th and Brass and Percussion finished 12th.
Spirit of Atlanta (11th-86.40) received the same score as in Semifinals, taking 10th in Visual Analysis and Brass, 12th in Color Guard and 11th in the remaining five captions.
Blue Stars (12th-85.45) slipped 0.75 from Semifinals and fell to 10th in Percussion after being 8th in Semifinals. The corps was 12th in every other caption other than an 11th place finish in Brass.
