Congratulations to Lauren White of the Vanguard Cadets, who is the recipient of the Jim Ott scholarship. White, of Tempe, Arix., attends Northern Arizona University and is a music major. She plays baritone with the Vanguard Cadets. The Jim Ott scholarship, named after Spirit's legendary instructor who died in 1980, is open to any marching drum corps member. Applications for The Jim Ott Scholarship are available by contacting S.O.M.E. Inc. (Sponsors of Musical Enrichment, of Stockton, Calif. a nonprofit corporation and the producer of the "Moonlight Classic" drum and bugle competition held in Stockton as an annual July event). This $3,000 scholarship will be granted for a one-year period and will be awarded to a graduating high school senior or a student presently attending an institution of higher learning. Certification must be provided indicating enrollment in a program of continuing education. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must: *Demonstrate financial need
*Participate in Drum Corps
*Demonstrate leadership qualities
*Be accepted to or in attendance at an institution of continuing education (public or private)
