Michael Kamen, a renowned composer who wrote the original "Millenium Symphony" that the Glassmen fielded in 2002, died Tuesday in London. Kamen scored Hollywood films such as "Lethal Weapon," "Die Hard," "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" (which Southwind adapted for the field in 1992) and "Mr. Holland's Opus." Spirit's on-the-field warm-up (and the song of the 2003 corps) was Kamen's "Band of Brothers." "Just a recent example of Kamen's influence in DCI. It worked really well for us," said Mark Fifer, Spirit's arranger. Kamen, who had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1996, died after a "cardiac event" in London.
