This a photo of Joseph Ricard (Blue Devils A euphonium) and Frances Maurer (Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets color guard) taken on Aug. 9. After the Open Class Quarterfinals in Michigan City, Ind., Frances and her dad drove to visit Joe in Lancaster, Pa., where he is recovering from a neurological condition.
Joe and Fran have been dating for more than two years! Frances broke her wrist during SCV Cadets practice in mid-July (she was back practicing with the corps the following morning after this photo), and Joe's condition is steadily improving. It was an interesting 36-hour, 1,400 mile drive (thanks Dad). The visit certainly was good for both these young champions! Look to see them both back marching at full strength, next season!
